309S stainless steel pipe is a cuttable stainless steel containing sulfur and is used in applications where easy cutting and table top and high brightness are primarily required. 309L stainless steel pipe is a variant of 309 stainless steel with a lower carbon content and is used in applications requiring welding. The lower carbon content minimizes the precipitation of carbide in the heat affected zone near the weld seam, which can lead to intergranular corrosion (weld erosion) of stainless steel in certain environments.
