Titanium wire carburizing surface treatment

Titanium wire forms a stable carbide of higher hardness with carbon. The growth of the carburized layer between titanium and carbon is determined by the diffusion rate of titanium in the carburized layer.
The solubility of carbon in titanium is small, totaling 0.3% at 850X, and dropping to about 0.1% at 600C. Because of the small solubility of carbon in titanium, the only way to achieve surface hardening is basically through the deposition of the titanium carbide layer and its lower forsaking domain. Carburization must be carried out under the condition of oxygen removal, because the powder suitable for steel commonly carburized against the surface of carbon monoxide or carbon monoxide containing oxygen and the formation of the surface layer hardness reaches 2700MPa and 8500MPa, and the purpose. It is easy to peel off.
In contrast, a thin layer of titanium carbide may be formed when carburized in charcoal under deoxidized or decarburized conditions. The hardness of this layer is 32OUOMPa, which is in line with the hardness of titanium carbide. The depth of the carburized layer is approximately greater than the depth of the carburized layer when nitriding with nitrogen under the same conditions. Under oxygen-enriched conditions, oxygen absorption must be taken into account to affect the hardening depth. Only under very thin layer thickness conditions, in a vacuum or argon-methane atmosphere carburizing powder may form sufficient adhesion strength compared to this, the use of gas carburizing agent may form a particularly hard and well bonded titanium carbide hardened layer. At the same time the hardening spread is formed at temperatures between 950T: and 10201: at temperatures between 50fim and 50fim. As the layer thickness increases, the titanium carbide layer becomes more brittle and tends to flake off. In order to avoid carbon inclusions in the titanium carbide layer due to the decomposition of rane, gas carburization should be performed in an inert gas using a specified dose of additive with a volume fraction of approximately 2% rane. When propane additives are used and methane carburizing is utilized, a lower surface hardness is developed. The best wear resistance is achieved when propane is used for gas carburizing under the condition of bonding force up to UOkPa, although the measured thickness of the hardened layer is very thin. Hydrogen is absorbed under gas carburizing conditions, but it has to be removed again during vacuum annealing.
