Alloy 304 is the most versatile and widely used alloy in the stainless steel family. It can be used in a variety of domestic and commercial applications and offers excellent corrosion resistance, ease of fabrication, excellent formability and great strength. Austenitic stainless steel is also considered the easiest of the high-alloy steels to weld, and can be welded by all fusion and resistance welding processes.
With a controlled carbon content of 0.04 to 0.10, Alloy 304H provides higher high-temperature strength when exposed to temperatures above 800 o F. At temperatures above 500 o C, Alloy 304H also has higher short- and long-term creep strength than Alloy 304L and is more resistant to sensitization than Alloy 304L.
