1.4462 material has good cost performance. The duplex name comes from the properties of this grade, as this grade shows two different stainless steel grade phases, which is why it is called duplex. The 1.4462 material has both ferritic and austenitic stainless steel-like properties. 1.4462 material has better corrosion resistance than 316L and 316Ti. Additionally, mechanical properties are 50% higher than most austenitic grades such as 304.
UNS S31803
DIN EN 1.4462 equates to UNS S31803 (ASTM A182 F51) and UNS S32205 (ASTM A182 F60). The former caption was the original one for a 22% Cr duplex stainless steel. However, as explained in an earlier article, manufacturers optimised the composition towards the top end of the limits to improve pitting corrosion resistance.
