321 seamless pipes description

321 tube is an austenitic stainless steel, which is similar to grade 304, but with at least five times as much titanium added as carbon and provides good corrosion resistance. It has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 - 1500°F. It has higher creep and stress rupture properties than grades 304 and 304L, is resistant to oxidation to 1500°F, and has good low temperature toughness. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working. It can be easily machined and welded with standard manufacturing practices. 321 seamless pipe is suitable for chemical processing, pharmaceutical, food processing, aerospace, petroleum refining and other applications. It has good corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel. ASTM A312 TP321 can be easily formed and stretched, but requires high pressure and experiences more springback than ferritic and carbon steels. It hardens rapidly and may require annealing after severe forming.
